Looking for a CM@R
The Library will begin advertising for a Construction Manager at Risk (CM@R) for its Addition and Renovation Project at the end of January. What's a CM@R? It's a slightly different process than the typical construction bidding process where the agency puts out a full set of construction drawings, accepts bids and then contracts with the lowest bidder. In this process, the Library will be evaluating not only of the potential firms' costs for the project, but also their qualifications to manage the project. One of the parts I like best about this process is that it allows the Library to bring on a general contractor earlier in the project than is typical so as to build a better partnership for developing the construction drawings and project costs.

Quick Update on Library Addition
We've had a series of pre-application meetings with the Town of Jackson's Design Review Committee, Planning Commission and Council. Our architect Peggy Gilday reviewed the current design with these three groups and solicited their informal comments. There was nothing unexpected. In fact, we received good comments to help us as the architects move ahead with sketch plans.

When Will the Library Start the Addition?
Now that the library's funding for the addition and renovation is secure, we are moving ahead with our project. So, I'd like to give you a brief update on what's happening.
The number one question I hear is "when will you start building?" The answer is early summer 2011, with a target completion date of January 2013.

Library Submits SPET Application
I was excited to submit the Library's application to the County Commissioners to be on the SPET ballot in August to ask voters for funds to construct the addition to the main library. So many people have worked hard to bring a responsible and responsive project to the table that serves truly essential needs for our community.

Library Board chooses Design Option for Library Addition
On Thursday, the Library Board gave a thumbs up to design Option A+ as the preferred direction for the addition to the main library. This option features a new main entrance along Virginian Lane, with covered walkways, and the possibility of an added south entrance for access to outdoor spaces and START bus stop. I'm excited that Option A+ also allows for more distinct separation of the active spaces within the library from the tranquil zones.
