I am often delighted and surprised by how good the collections are. Would love to see more ceramics, wildcrafting, songbooks - jazz, and more and more CDs, books on CD. The playaway books are excellent.
From paper comment form commented on 11/06 at 05:25 PM
Wish there were more DVDs to choose from and some sort of laminated-printed list of DVDs (or electronic, even better) so we could search through them that way instead of trying to read them on the shelves. I also wish there were more DVDs for young children.
From paper comment form commented on 11/06 at 05:29 PM
More DVDs. More variety, major motion pictures, all academy award nominees and classics. More Spanish in CD format - audiocassettes not in cars anymore.
From paper comment form commented on 11/06 at 05:52 PM
Basic layout is good, easy to find materials. Obviously it would be great if selection was increased.
Margot B commented on 11/06 at 06:07 PM
The collections are excellent - the variety, quality, up-to-date, and multicultural materials provide a broad range of learning options….Not to mention all of the wonderful programs & services.
Marcie commented on 11/06 at 06:22 PM
More fiction series - I’ve gotten really interested in fiction. More modern DVDs and books on CD. More things for school kids, they need computers. Hated the playaways!

More DVDs for rent. Learning Spanish on CD.

A drive-through book return/hold pickup. This would be helpful for Seniors, or parents in a hurry with small children.
Glenn commented on 11/07 at 11:40 AM
More new “hard” science fiction and less fantasy books.
More TV series on DVD.
Betty commented on 11/07 at 12:13 PM
Please don’t turn into a bookstore with shallow, easy materials. We have many in our community who want to be intellectually challenged by what we read and can’t afford to buy all the books to satisfy our reading appetite.
Joey commented on 11/08 at 04:16 PM
I like the way the current magazines are now displayed and the variety is great. Being able to grab just about any magazine I’m interested in and sit down and read is one of my favorite things about the library.

Love the new books. Children’s DVDs- could use some new ones for kids.
From paper comment form commented on 11/09 at 11:56 AM
To add legal sections or courses like “jurisdictionary” for pro-se litigants.
To add special section & classes - how the financial system works. (Or a room w/ books & job search help.)
To add section to help immigrants in integration.
Sue Mortensen commented on 11/09 at 11:58 AM
The library is such an asset to our community. Thank you so much for all your efforts and for providing this avenue for comment. I would love to see a larger fiction section, more classics as well as the most current books.
Stacey commented on 11/09 at 02:15 PM
Love the library! But would like to see the children’s section a little more seperate from the reading area in order to maintain a more peaceful atmosphere. Also, drive through book drop off would be great considering the tough partking situation at certain times of the day. Thanks for everything!
From paper comment form commented on 11/09 at 04:57 PM
More popular titles! Bigger collection for browsing. Enough books on the shelf so you can be led to other/different topics (getting lost in the collection). I’m in and out - the self check works well.
Senior Center Input Session commented on 11/09 at 09:51 PM
add more books on CD

I think we need to protect our current collections better. Too often I want to check something out only to see it listed as “missing”.

-Movable book cases for new arrivals. Easier, better merchandising
-Lots of space for “face out” book displays
-Collection displays promote reading and passion for books
-Like the book store feel for book displays. Shelving to define spaces. Auto discharge. Listening stations.
-Don’t like a bookstore layout with lots of tables holding books. Too hard to find what needed.
-Like non-linear bookshelves, but are they an efficient use of space?
-Love mobile shelving (ie- circular shelving on wheels)
-Lower height for shelves. Less tunnel feel
-Wavy shelf ends
-Movable shelving – especially to create variable quiet areas
-Shelving that is more compact
-Imagination for shelving – more open
-Like lighter natural wood – shelves, walls, etc.
-Magnetic signage for collections
-Flexible movable furniture
-Need better lighting for book stacks
-Don’t like bins where books are just tossed – no order – makes finding certain authors tricky.
-I’ve never liked Dewey Decimal, but there’s an education issue. Like to hear more discussion
-Subject matter, not Dewey
-Books by subject matter
-Let’s debate Dewey – before you change
-Drive up book drop/pick up of holds
-Book drop/drive up – yes!
Charlotte commented on 11/12 at 08:23 AM
I would love to see the online experience for searching and requesting books updated. I find the online catalog is not as easy to use as one would expect (keyword searches rarely turn up the book I’m looking for) and online hold requests could be improved by letting us know how many hold requests are already in line.
Thanks!

Books - great - more copies of best sellers would be nice (NY Times)
Magazines - great
Childrens books in Spanish - collection could be expanded!

I appreciate the collection that the Library has! My husband and I constantly borrow CDs, so we’d love to see more of those. Thanks!
beverly boynton commented on 11/12 at 04:20 PM
more current, recent books—especially on politics, biographies, current events, world affairs, new history books. often seems (but i could be wrong) that other wyoming libraries have larger actual book collections. interlibrary loan is wonderful, and i think helps save each library money, but i wish we could be leaders in this. i am amazed often at what we CAN obtain, but books published in the past year seem scarcer.
better search engine for the online catalog.
you do a great job, thanks.

New biographies - you’re pretty good at getting new books.
From paper comment form commented on 11/13 at 08:27 AM
Current magazines, newspapers very enjoyable.

Better system for shelving music CDs. Too packed - can’t get to the titles; too crowded - not ergonomic enough.
David holmes commented on 11/13 at 02:07 PM
I read WWII military history. Expand the section, it is depleted as it is.
There is very little on our two current wars. They are being fought every day, where is the history? Personal experiences are being published right now!
When Former Vice President Dick Cheney publishes his memoir will he be given the “local author” benifits from our library? As a writer this is important to me.
David Holmes commented on 11/13 at 02:13 PM
I have made extensive use of interlibrary loans. The service is excellent. The librarian in charge of the interlibrary loan system can do web searches, keyword searches, author searches and just about any kind of other searches you have in mind.

More YA books in Spanish (both translations and Latin A. authors)
Also more books in other languages like French
AT commented on 11/15 at 02:51 PM
I love the teens section and the selection of books in it, but I would like to see more books. I would especially prefer to have a better selection in realistic fiction and realistic fantasies (such as the Twilight Series, Wicked Lovely Series, or Maximum Ride Series).

Books not enough storage - too low on shelves
Need more current best sellers (people request books but we don’t have them)
from paper comment commented on 11/15 at 03:01 PM
Lehr/Moyer interviews - they do lots of interviews with interesting authors but you don’t have books by those authors in the library.
Need to see books immediately when coming in to the library, our entrance is cold an intimidating.

There are some areas (local history and natural history, mountaineering) in which old books should not be discarded even if no one is reading them. The library’s collection in these areas should be considered historic, not just circulating.
I only go to the library for books so the growing collections of other media seem to me a misallocation of space and resources. But I understand that this is a minority view.
from paper comment commented on 11/15 at 03:11 PM
More like a book store.
from paper comment commented on 11/15 at 03:15 PM
Excellent book collection; however, magazines should be expanded, importantly to include, at a minimum: Worldwatch and Yes! Additionally a full collection of the Worldwatch published white papers. (I’m not sure they’re called “white papers” but they are numbered, began being published in the 1980’s and continue to date) and a full collection of Worldwatch’s annual “state of the World “publications.

I can sometimes not find magazines because people don’t return them to the racks. How about a few signs to remind people that they should be returned so others may enjoy them, too.

From paper comment form commented on 11/16 at 12:45 PM
I’ve been hearing about some libraries not having books anymore. There are important reasons to have a conventional library - for books, etc. and as a social gathering place. Perhaps consider developing a virtual library for electronic materials, but please don’t let this lessen the need for a physical library space.
From paper comment form commented on 11/16 at 01:22 PM
I love the openness of the library. I use the library all the time - I’m here every week to get books.
From paper comment form commented on 11/16 at 02:04 PM
Good, but I believe that Teton County should match Campbell County in having audio-visual equipment to check out, ie-CD players, cassette, etc.

The rate at which you order new books is wonderful and amazing. If there is a way to increase or broaden that department, that would be a dream come true.

I am used to the way it is laid out so I am good with it. Maybe a conference room! More comfortable chairs - big bean bags!
Linda G. commented on 11/17 at 10:03 AM
In general, it appears we have a very well-rounded collection of books. I don’t utilize anything other than the books very much so will limit my comments to them. (Although one request re the magazines: could you please post a notice a few weeks before you consign the old issues to the recycling bins? My heart fell some time ago when I found that the prior year’s Piecework issues were gone. Some of us really would purchase the oldies.)
My perception may be warped from spending time in the libraries of large cities, but sometimes I feel that even though there are books on every conceivable subject on our shelves, within a particular subject area, there are not always a great many choices. I have always assumed that this was just a spacing/finaces issue, but perhaps not. Occassionally I hear librarians mentioning that a particular item hasn’t been checked out in such and such period of time, and I wonder if that is the criteria for removing a book from circulation. I felt a little ill at the last Friends’ Book Sale when I saw the boxes and boxes of books that had been removed from circulation…especially the books from the locked cabinets. I readily admit to being sentimental about books, and the beautiful old volumes in particular, but still; I always thought that part of a library’s purpose of existence was the preservation of rare or unusual books. (If you’ve not already done so, perhaps you could give a lecture on your collections, how selected, why disposed of, your purpose, etc.) Basically, I wish we could keep more books. We may not have time to read something right now, but who’s to say what another two years will bring? Or when we may first discover an author? Or take up a new hobby or interest? Maybe this is just my age showing, but I don’t want to find out everything, or even read a novel, on the computer (especially since internet sessions are limited to an hour); I love books.
A last thought on collections: something that makes me crazy is a situation I’ve found in the Fiction section. So you only want to retain a certain number of books by an author (for example, I’ve purchased a couple of books by Victoria Holt at the books sale that were not represented in the library’s catalog); fine, there are bookstores; I can live with that. But why on God’s green earth would you have volumes 1,2, and 5 of a series, but not 3,4 and 6? (M. Chesney is an example.) Ugh, leaves me frustrated.
From paper comment form commented on 11/17 at 11:47 AM
More books on CD please! More copies of the popular infant/toddler books and get them on DVD also. It’s impossible to get them. People keep the books for a long time (stiffer penalty?).

More fiction, more audio books.
From email comment form commented on 11/18 at 12:48 PM
In general, the layout and the collections are very good. However, it would be great to have more of everything, especially space for books. Recently, I’ve been stunned to find out that several items (both books and videos) that I used last year have been removed from the collection (presumably because there wasn’t enough space to keep housing them).
From email comment form commented on 11/18 at 12:49 PM
Yes, more quiet space would be good, as would more vigilant monitoring of the spaces that already exist. A ‘culture of quietness’ needs to be actively promoted. The cell phone rule needs to be strictly enforced. It’s especially galling to see a member of the library staff using a loud voice while assisting patrons in or near quiet areas.
From email comment form commented on 11/18 at 12:53 PM
You are doing a lovely job! I would love to see/hear expanded music CD collections, more jazz, more world. Perhaps display the newly acquired CDs separately for awhile so they are not lost in their sections, like the new books are displayed…
From paper comment form commented on 11/18 at 01:26 PM
