Library Reopens; Construction Plows Ahead!

The library is open once again and we’ve completed the remodel of the public restrooms which feature all new fixtures, floors, tile, lights and paint. Also, they’re “green!” The library is aiming for Silver LEED certification with the addition and renovation project. The newly remodeled restrooms have low-flow water fixtures, marmoleum floors, and low or zero-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paint and adhesives. Marmoleum, a natural linoleum, is made from natural raw materials including linseed oil pine rosins, wood flour, and ecologically-friendly pigments that contain no heavy metals such as lead or cadmium. It’s highly durable, non-toxic, anti-microbial and easy to maintain. In addition to green building materials, the library is following other LEED certification requirements such as recycling the old restroom metal fixtures, and buying new materials within a 500-mile radius when possible.

The other work that was accomplished over the closure was completing a partial installation of ducts in the main library for the new HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system; initiation installation of exterior siding; finishing window installation for the children & teens wing as well as the auditorium; and prepping for painting in children & teens wing as well as entry area of main library. Some painting has been started.
