Library Parking Moved to Temporary Lot
Jackson, WY- All parking for the Teton County Library has temporarily moved to the vacant lot on the west side of the library for approximately two months, until the end of October. The move allows for reconfiguration of the existing lot. Library visitors may access the temporary parking lot from Snow King Avenue, next to the START Bus Stop (#47 County Library).
The adjacent sidewalk along Virginian Lane is currently open; however, it will be closed at some point during the reconfiguration and pedestrians walking along Virginian Lane will be directed to cross to the side of the street opposite the library and will also access the library from Snow King Avenue. See pedestrian map above for walking route!
The parking lot reconfiguration is part of the voter-approved library addition and renovation. The parking lot project will create more spaces for library users, improve traffic flow and allow for handicap and senior parking spaces next to the building, making the library more accessible for all patrons.
The community is invited to a launch celebration Thursday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., as kids and teens “Imagine How You Will Grow with Teton County Library!” Children and teens will be invited to see how much they will grow during the 15-18 month renovation and addition. Teton County Library Friends will measure the heights of all interested children and teens during the celebration. Once the library’s new family wing opens, kids will be measured again to see how much they have grown with the library. Kids will also have the opportunity to write their wishes for the new wing on the red wall of the children’s area. Light refreshments will be served, and library staff will be on hand to answer questions and show floor plans of the addition and renovation.
The library will continue to serve the public throughout the 15 to 18 month project, maintaining its regular hours, seven days a week, with the exception of occasional closures over holidays or long weekends, including the upcoming Labor Day weekend. The library will close five days Saturday, Sept. 3 through Wednesday, Sept. 7 to rearrange the interior spaces and make room for construction and will resume regular library hours Thursday, Sept. 8, opening at 10 a.m.
Beginning Sept. 8, the library’s main entrance will temporarily move to the northwest corner of the building, currently the staff entrance, while the new entrance is configured and constructed. Signage will direct library patrons from the temporary parking lot to the temporary entrance.
The voter-approved library construction project includes building an 11,000-square-foot addition and renovating the existing 24,000-square-foot building, parking lot and outdoor areas. The building project will create more space for books and other library materials, reading and study, computers and technology, community meeting rooms, and teen and children’s areas. The Library Board is planning for green building LEED certification. The library’s existing building systems will be replaced or modified to increase energy efficiency.
