New Wing Opening Draws 1,250
The Library New Youth Wing opening party, Sundae Sunday drew 1,250 people on Sunday, July 8. Kids and teens poured into their new space, and explored every inch of their new diggs. Storytime, crafts, cake walk, flashmob and ice cream sundaes rounded out the afternoon.
The added space for teens and kids will allow for more computers and materials to check out; flexible classroom space for activities including storytime, book groups, and collaborative study; and additional study and media rooms. Other components of the Youth Wing include a new Early Literacy room, and a significantly larger teen space to further serve the growing needs of the community.
The next phase of the building project will be renovation of the original library building. The library’s existing electrical, data and building systems are being replaced, upgraded and modernized. This will increase energy efficiency as well as allow improved electronic access for patrons. The entire project completion is planned for January 2013. Architects on the project are Gilday Architects with Humphries/Poli Architects, and Construction Manager is GE Johnson.
