Public Meetings to Review Library Addition and Renovation Design Plans: May 11, 18 & June 20

The Town of Jackson Design Review Committee, Planning Commission and Jackson Town Council will review the library’s request for approval of its addition and renovation project plans in three open, public meetings. All three meetings will be held at Town Hall, Council Chambers at 150 E. Pearl Avenue, Jackson, and will offer the opportunity for public comment.

Public Meeting Dates:
Town of Jackson Design Review Committee:  Wednesday, May 11, 5 p.m.
Town of Jackson Planning Commission:  Wednesday, May 18, 5:30 p.m.
Jackson Town Council:  Monday, June 20, 6 p.m.
Location: Town Hall, Council Chambers, 150 E. Pearl Avenue, Jackson.

The first meeting, and first step in the public-approval process, is with the Town of Jackson Design Review Committee (DRC). The DRC is a recommending body to the Town of Jackson Planning Commission and will provide comments to the Planning Commission on the library’s addition and renovation design plans. The DRC will look at the library’s plans to ensure that the design shows the proposed public space is “usable and desirable to inhabit.“ This includes looking at the building composition and massing (the kinds of materials, colors, heights, etc.), the integration of facility orientation and day lighting, street/pedestrian accessibility, and the screening of users from garage & utilities areas.

In the second step of the public process, the Town of Jackson Planning Commission will review the comments from the DRC, comments from Town of Jackson departments, and staff analysis from the Town of Jackson Planning Department. The Planning Commission is looking for conformance with the Town of Jackson Land Development Regulations. They will make a recommendation to the Jackson Town Council about the submitted library plans.

The third and final meeting is held by the Jackson Town Council who will make a decision on the library plan proposal. The Town Council is the approving body for all requests under the Land Development Regulations. They review the DRC’s comments, the Planning Commission’s comments and recommendations, the Town of Jackson departments’ comments and Planning Department staff analysis. All this information is factored into their decision about the library’s request for approval for the addition and renovation plans.
