Library Programs for You & Your Children

Librarians use books, music, puppets, finger plays and flannel-board pieces to educate and entertain kids during storytime. Geared for ages 4 to 6, this half-hour event takes place every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Weekly themes help librarians introduce excellent read-aloud picture books and get children involved in literacy activities.

Toddler time provides a fun introduction to early childhood books and activities. This 20-minute session is geared to children ages 3 and under and their caregivers, presented on Tuesdays from 10:05 to 10:25 a.m. and 10:35 to 10:55 a.m., as well as on Thursday from 10:05 to 10:25 a.m.

Whether holiday events or folklore festivals, Youth Services staff bring children’s entertainment and learning to the community through programs with books, music, drama and dance.

Children enjoy their natural creativity and develop an appreciation for art and various art mediums at Library crafts. Crafts are geared for different age groups including preschool and elementary ages. See the Kids’ Events calendar for specific dates and times.

Avid literary buffs from sixth grade through high school meet monthly during the school year to discuss selected books, share favorite titles and have fun with literature. For more information call 307-733-2164 ext. 103. (Alta offers fourth and fifth grade book clubs)

The Friends of the Library create "Welcome to the World" gift packages for new moms and babies. Packages include board books, rhymes and finger plays, with helpful tips on the importance of reading to children at an early age for future success and parental bonding. Born to Read is funded by the Library Foundation.

Theme-based literacy kits are available for check out to day care centers, preschools and tutors. Kits contain books, videos and manipulative toys for interactive projects in art, math, science, cooking, music and social studies.

Upon request, the Library provides theme-related materials from our collection to support teachers’ curriculums. This service is offered for teachers working with preschool children through high school.
