1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Alta, WY –Teton County Library Alta Branch invites the community to our 4th Annual Cowboy Songs and Cake featuring musicians Mike Hurwitz and Jerry Linn, who will provide live music and entertainment while attendees enjoy cake, coffee, hot chocolate and tea.
Hurwitz is influenced by the country and cowboy music he heard while growing up in rural Wyoming, and his Mississippi relatives also exposed him to blues and jazz music. After years on the road, picking with anyone and everyone, Hurwitz absorbed many of the regional styles played across the continent.
American Cowboy Magazine says “Michael Hurwitz grew up with a guitar in one hand and reins in the other. Along the road he’s howled with coyotes and picked with the greats, and has become the best of both - wild and untamed.”
Jerry Linn, a local musician of national fame, will join Hurwitz on the electric bass. “Jerry comes to us with a reputation; many seniors will recognize him as the young tow-headed fiddler who grew up in Teton Valley who likes to downplay his ‘rep,’” said Gretchen Notzold, Alta Branch Library Manager.
“This concert by such gifted musicians is not to miss,” Notzold said. “We are fortunate to be able to present a free event with these strummin’ buckaroos.”
Many of the songs to be played by Hurwitz and Linn are original compositions, indeed some have not yet been aired in public.
The event is free, with support from donations, large and small, to the Teton County Library Foundation.
Hours for the Teton County Library Alta Branch are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 12-6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Kids and caregivers are invited to weekly Wednesday Storytimes from 11:15-11:45 a.m. featuring stories, songs, arts and crafts.
