Jackson, WY- Patrons will see several new features when Teton County Library reopens at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, although construction work will continue with renovations still underway in the main library wing.

Library lovers will get to browse the nonfiction, fiction, mystery and science fiction book collections, as well as audio-visual collections in their new permanent homes. In addition, three new study rooms will open to the public for tutoring, test proctoring and other uses.

Meanwhile, crews have put up a temporary wall so the final round of renovations may continue while the library remains open to patrons in a temporary configuration. Crews are working on a new reading area for adults, which will include a fireplace and more windows along the south side of the building to create a cozier place for sitting, reading and connecting to the outdoors. The library addition and renovation will be completed in February 2013.

Due to the extended construction closure and changes in staffing, the library’s Storytime and Toddler Time reading programs are cancelled in September. Both Storytime and Toddler Time will resume during their regular hours in October.

This fall, crews have also re-striped and sealed the library’s parking lot. Workers have removed the library’s old boiler, which is being replaced by a new HVAC system located on the roof where it is less visible. The space where the old boiler sat has been paved to make room for more library parking.

The library will have one more extended, construction closure, Jan. 1-13, before unveiling the finished renovation and addition.
Though construction is still underway, library lovers are already enjoying the newly finished Teen and Children’s Wing, a new computer center for adults and a new lobby. The library also has a second entrance, easily accessible from the START bus stop on Snow King Avenue. Simply follow the sidewalk through the library’s newly landscaped backyard and check out the whimsical, willow fence around the children’s yard, which will provide an outdoor venue for programs.

Architects on the project are Gilday Architects with Humphries/Poli Architects, and Construction Manager is GE Johnson.
