Library Closed Mar. 24-Apr 8 for Construction

Teton County Library will be closed for two weeks beginning Saturday, March 24, through Sunday April 8 to allow for interior construction work, including refurbishing the public restrooms and work on the heating and cooling system. Regular library hours will resume on Monday, April 9, opening at 10 a.m.

Although librarians will not be available for reference help or other library services during the closure, patrons can utilize many online resources via the library’s website, TCLib.org. Online, patrons can access library databases and their personal library card account; download books from the library’s ebook collection; read staff reviews and more.

In addition, both kids and adults can catch several library programs over the two-week period at off-site locations including kids’ storytimes and crafts, adult discussion programs, lectures, book clubs and free tax preparation. See the library online calendar, TCLib.org/calendar, for event information during the closure and throughout the month.

No checked-out library materials will be due back during the two-week closure, however patrons may continue to return items at any time in the library book drop, located just outside the library entrance.

The new entrance and Children’s and Teen wing is scheduled to open in early July 2012, and the renovation project in the current library building is slated for completion in January 2013.

“We are thrilled to be able to open the new Children’s and Teen wing this July—several months earlier than originally anticipated in the construction schedule,” said Library Director Deb Adams. “We want folks to get the ‘new goods’ as soon as possible, and summer will be a perfect time for kids to start utilizing this new space.”

The new wing allows for expanded teen and youth services areas and collections, more computers, additional study and media rooms, and a larger, flexible classroom space for multiple activities such as storytime, collaborative study and book groups. The new teen area will provide a dedicated space for the growing number of teen library users. The space will feature modern technologies that echo teens’ school classroom environments, extensive collaborative workspace and multiple recreational technologies for fun down time.

The Project
The voter-approved library construction project includes building an 11,000-square-foot addition and renovating the existing 24,000-square-foot building, parking lot and outdoor areas. The building project will create more space for library materials, reading and study, computers and technology, community meeting rooms, and teen and children’s areas. The library’s existing electrical, data and building systems are being replaced, upgraded and modernized. This will increase energy efficiency as well as allow improved electronic access for patrons. Architects on the project are Gilday Architects with Humphries/Poli Architects, and Construction Manager is GE Johnson.
