Final Phase of Library's Strategic Plan Outlines Goals

Jackson, WY- Teton County Library personnel announce the release of goals for the strategic plan "Our Future, Your Library" from 2006 - 2010. The final phase in the planning process, the strategic plan goals outline specific areas of work for the library in the next five years. Goals were created by library personnel, and approved by the library's management team and Teton County Library Board. Work on the new plan begins in January 2006.

"We're excited and delighted about the path our community, board and personnel have laid out for the library's next five years. We are even more eager to put our words into action," said Deb Adams, Teton County Library Director.

The first phase of the strategic plan involved the formation of the Strategic Planning Committee, as well as an opportunity for all community members to give the library input on its direction for the next five years during 20 focus group sessions. Nearly 150 citizens took the library up on the offer. The Strategic Planning Committee then reviewed all comments from the focus group participants, as well as reports on current library operations, library trends, and economic and demographic analyses. The result was the library's vision statements. These vision statements, as well as the library's mission, served as the springboard for library personnel to create more detailed goals.

What can the community expect from the library in the next five years? The Library Board has selected three goals scheduled to begin in 2006.

"The board felt that these three goals laid the foundation for the library to carry out the entire strategic plan. We recommended that activities begin with work on a long-term master facilities plan, an approach to provide a balance of traditional and emerging technologies, and a library-wide marketing plan to communicate with our community," said Amy Robinson, Board President and Strategic Planning Committee member.

Goals that will emerge in coming years include a focus on leadership and innovation in community collaboration and dialogue, services for teen and senior populations, as well as increasing onsite and remote access to library collections. A list of all 13 goals is attached.

"We want to be one of the best libraries in the country, but even more importantly - we want to be the best library for you," said Robinson.
